Wahlstorf: Hotels and Accommodation

Gut Wahlstorf is located in a former moated castle complex on an island surrounded by two branches of the Schwentine.

Culture and History

The architectural highlights of the estate include a largely unchanged late-medieval manor house consisting of two connected buildings and a fully thatched barn dating from 1584. The barn is considered one of the largest and oldest surviving half-timbered buildings in Schleswig-Holstein.

Since 1998, the Low German nativity play has been part of the local tradition. It is performed in the wheat barn at Gut Wahlstorf.

In the Schusteracht, Gut Wahlstorf is one of the eight cultural and historical highlights.

Water and Nature

Lake Lanker See is part of the Schwentine waterway. An official bathing area is located on the lake east of Gut Wahlstorf. In parts of Lake Lanker See, navigation bans or recommended areas that should not be entered by boat are in place to protect waterfowl.

The Kührener Teich nature reserve is part of the Natura 2000 network both as an FFH area and as a bird protection area. It protects important breeding, resting and feeding habitats for endangered and rare bird species as well as for the fire-bellied toad.

Cycle Paths and Canoe Launch Site

The 38-kilometre Land-Tour cycle route leads through the rural surroundings of Holstein Switzerland, passes small villages and leads to Gut Wahlstorf. The Schusteracht cycle routes are also suitable for hiking excursions.

Fischer Bock in Wahlstorf is a canoe launch site with food, coffee and cake on a lakeside terrace. Access to the launch site is possible with a trailer, but the canoes have to be carried approximately 60 metres downhill to Lake Fuhlensee.
