Meyn: Hotels and accommodations

The center of Meyn is characterized by the old peace oak, traditional thatched-roof houses, mature trees, and abundant greenery.

Townscape and landscape

Meyn has a rural landscape with meadows and floodplain areas connected to the Meyn-Au, the Wallsbek, and the Rodau. The Meynau runs through Meyn as part of the Schafflunder Mühlenstrom system. In this system, around 22 kilometers, or 65.5 percent, of the watercourse run through FFH areas with water-dependent species or habitat types.

Nature and trails

The walking and hiking route Through the Wallsbek glacial valley runs through an oak forest along the Wallsbek, the Meyn-Au, and the Schafflunder Mühlenstrom. It is available in a 7-kilometer and a 12-kilometer version.

Culture and technology

The Christophorus Church, an early Romanesque fieldstone church from the 12th century, stands in Wallsbüll. Its furnishings include an early Romanesque granite baptismal font in the shape of a chalice, a pulpit from the 16th century, and a stone-carved altar with a Baroque wooden superstructure from 1730.

Shortly after the confluence of the Wallsbek and Meynau stands the Schafflund watermill. A sign on Federal Highway 199 points toward the mill; a short private road lined with deciduous trees follows. At the Angeln/Unewatt Landscape Museum, the working butter mill demonstrates how a waterwheel powered the equipment used to make butter. The Fortuna gallery Dutch windmill, built in 1878, has been restored as a functioning technical monument. A 1.7-kilometer circular trail also leads through the Angeln/Unewatt Landscape Museum.
