Arlöv between Nature, Culture and Industrial Heritage

Arlöv combines local and industrial history with nature-rich areas west of the town. From a viewpoint in Spillepeng, you can see across Lommabukten. This means that different experiences can be combined when planning a trip: paths through the landscape, insights into the history of Arlöv and cultural sites with their own history of use.

Nature trails, Spillepeng and Lommabukten

The 4-kilometre-long nature and culture trail can be reached from Arlöv via Kronetorps Mölla or Arlövsgården. The southern section of stage 14 of the Skåneleden towards Bulltofta passes Arlövgården. West of Arlöv lies Spillepeng, a recreational area with fitness loops and opportunities for birdwatching. Spillepengen is part of the Skåneleden SL5: the area lies both on stage 13 from Lomma to Spillepengen and on stage 14 from Spillepengen to Bulltofta.

The landscape around Spillepeng includes the coastal meadows of Tågarps hed, which have been grazed since the Bronze Age. Lommabukten, with its associated coastal meadows, including Tågarps hed, is designated as a Natura 2000 site. A nature reserve was established there because of the sensitive birdlife and natural environment. These protective designations shape the natural area just as much as the viewpoint with its view across the bay.

Arlöv’s history in its buildings

Arlöv’s growth is closely linked to the construction of the sugar refinery in 1869 and the construction of the railway station in 1871. The influence of the industrial company Svenska Sockerfabriks AB on the town is particularly evident; Medborgarhuset, Sockerbrukets hörsal and Kalinan are among the buildings of significant value.

Arlövs kyrka was built as a new church for the Burlöv parish in the area where a large part of the growing population lived. The church was inaugurated in 1900 and built in the Neo-Gothic style from yellow machine-made brick. Following extensive interior renovations, it was reinaugurated in 2000; among other things, the original colour scheme was restored.

Theatre, mill and active pursuits

Arlövs teater also brings together different historical layers. The building was erected in 1892 by the first health insurance society in Arlöv, “Arlöfs Sjuk- och Begrafningskassa”. Today, it is used as a meeting venue, theatre and association premises, and is the venue for Arlövsrevyn, which has produced annual New Year’s revues there since 1995.

Kronetorps Mölla is a 27-metre-high, wind-powered mill dating from 1841. On summer Sundays, Burlövs Mölleförening gives guided tours of the mill and operates it when wind conditions permit. The traditional Mölledagen takes place on the first Sunday in July in Burlöv; the association also gives guided tours of Kronetorps Mölla then.

For another active pursuit, there is Burlövsbadet in Arlöv. It has four swimming pools, fitness facilities and interactive group training. The facility can be reached by train to Burlöv station or by bus to the Burlöv Kronetorp stop, and is located near a cycle path. The same broader destination area also includes Åkarp.
