Hiking trails and active days

Tingvalla recreational area has six trails for hiking or jogging. The “Brottets bana” trail is 3.9 kilometres long and runs around the quarry. Makadamrundan offers views over the quarry. Brottets bana gives you a specific distance to plan around, while the view is a distinct point of reference on Makadamrundan.

The start of the “Från ås till ås” section of the Skåneleden trail is signposted from Åstorp station via Perslund and onwards towards Tingvalla. There are basic campsites with wind shelters and toilets along the SL3 Ås till ås section of the Skåneleden. Facilities at these sites may vary from place to place, so check before your hike.

Landscapes and geological features

The natural areas offer a variety of landscapes. Tingvallaskogen in Åstorp includes species-rich deciduous woodland and a ravine that runs through the area. The municipal Kalvahagen Nature Reserve in Åstorp is characterised by beech woodland and pastureland. At the entrance to the reserve is an arboretum with various tree species found on Söderåsen. Fårahagen is a patchwork of broad-canopied trees, flowering shrubs and open areas rich in flowers; this landscape supports a diverse insect and bird population.

Geology also shapes place names and landscapes. Tingvallaravinen is a geological remnant of earthquakes that fractured the rock making up Söderåsen around 200 million years ago. Klintagumman is a gneiss rock formation at the northernmost tip of Söderåsen. Björnekulla klint, also known as Klinten, is located on Söderåsen in the middle of Åstorp. At Björnekulla klint, a viewpoint overlooks northern Helsingborg and the western parts of Åstorp.

Church art and cultural heritage

Björnekulla Church was inaugurated on the first Sunday of Advent in 1889. It is a Neo-Gothic brick cruciform church with a plastered, whitewashed facade. The chancel windows were designed and painted by Erik Olsson of the Halmstad Group as a triptych. The church’s furnishings also include a triumphal cross dating from the late 13th century, now placed as the “entrance” to the chancel, and a baptismal font from the early 13th century, brought over from the old church.

Events such as a Christmas market and craft days are held annually in Perslund. Perslunds hembygdsgård includes a fully operational Dutch windmill. Its construction includes millstones, shafts, wooden gears, sails on the vanes and a hoist for flour sacks. The mill can also be considered a piece of technical cultural heritage. If you are planning your stay around a particular event, check the specific dates.
