Brösarp – Hills, Hiking Trails and Cultural Landscape

Brösarp is shaped by the Brösarp Hills and the Verkeån Nature Reserve. Here, open cultural landscapes, marked hiking trails, historic farms and churches, and views over Hanö Bay come together. The Brösarp Hills and Verkeån Nature Reserve

The Brösarp Hills are part of the Verkeån Nature Reserve. On its way to the sea, the Verkeån River passes through the northern and southern hills of Brösarp. Cowslips, pasque flowers and sand pinks grow on the hills in the nature reserve. The landscape is also shaped by a long history of use: animals have grazed on the Brösarp Hills for thousands of years. Archaeological finds also show that the hills have been an open cultural landscape since the Bronze and Iron Ages.

Hiking trails of different lengths

Glimmebodaleden is a 5-kilometre, blue-marked circular trail in the northern Brösarp Hills. The yellow-marked Backaleden offers a longer option: this 19-kilometre hiking trail passes through Brösarp. The two hikes therefore differ not only in the colour of their markings, but also significantly in length: five kilometres compared with nineteen kilometres. In addition, the Kivik–Brösarp section of the Skåneleden trail runs through the northern Brösarp Hills. This provides clearly distinguishable routes for navigating the area, without the trails following the same route.

A special rule applies in the Verkeån Nature Reserve: Vantalängan is the only place where camping and overnight stays are permitted. This restriction is part of the way the natural area is managed and should be taken into account when planning an overnight stay in the reserve.

Farms, church and regional history

Glimmebodagården is situated in the gently rolling Brösarp Hills. The four-winged farm is considered a unique, well-preserved example of a rural cultural landscape. Parts of the residential building date from the 18th century. Every year, the local heritage association organises a range of activities at Glimmebodagården, making the farm not only a historic site but also a venue for regional cultural events.

Brösarp Church dates from the 12th century. Romanesque paintings in reddish brown and blue-grey have been preserved in the apse and on the chancel wall. Those wishing to combine nature trails with architectural and art history will find another distinct focus within the local landscape of Brösarp.

Railway views and mountain-bike trails

The Brösarp–S:t Olof railway line offers views over Hanö Bay and northeastern Österlen. Around Brösarp, the hilly terrain also provides excellent opportunities for cross-country mountain biking on singletrack trails. These two activities complement the hiking trails with a scenic perspective and an active option beyond hiking.
