When planning a stay in Degeberga, the main question is whether to focus on nature trails, cycling or cultural history. The municipal Degeberga backar nature reserve, with rare plants and animals; the Forsakar ravine, with waterfalls and beech forest; and a cycling route towards Kristianstad offer concrete starting points. The museum, church and local heritage park add art and architectural history to the story of the area.

Nature Trails and Landscapes

Degeberga backar is a municipal nature reserve with rare plants and animals. In the northern part of the reserve, two walking trails start from the village of Degeberga: the blue trail, 1.2 kilometres long, and the red trail, 2.2 kilometres long. The one-kilometre difference offers a clear guide if you want to choose a shorter or longer walk.

Forsakar offers a different kind of nature: the deep ravine is surrounded by several waterfalls and beech forest. The footpath from Degeberga to Forsakar connects to the trails at Degeberga backar. This sets Degeberga backar, with its rare plants and animals and trails of different lengths, alongside a ravine landscape of waterfalls and woodland. The blue and red trails let you choose your distance; the footpath to Forsakar adds a specific named destination.

Cycling Towards Kristianstad

The Stora Vattenriketrundan offers a different kind of excursion. Its northbound cycling section passes through Degeberga towards Kristianstad. Unlike the walking trails at Degeberga backar, it is a named cycling route; its northerly direction places Degeberga along its course. If you are choosing between cycling and walking, you can consider two different ways to plan a trip: a route through the village and trails with specific distances.

Art and History in Degeberga

The Ivar Johnsson Museum includes a modern art gallery displaying numerous sketches and copies of finished works. Degeberga Church adds a history of older architecture and furnishings to this connection with art: it was probably built from dressed fieldstone towards the end of the 12th century. The old pulpit was donated to the church as early as 1592; the altarpiece is a work by Ivar Johnsson. By contrast, the museum focuses on the artworks on display, while the church is defined by its construction and furnishings.

Degeberga Local Heritage Park, in the valley of the Mörkavadsån, contains around ten interesting historic buildings and numerous old objects. Historic buildings and objects are the focus here, while the museum and church offer other ways to explore art and history. There is also a café at Degeberga Local Heritage Park and Exercise Area.

The 2026 edition of CMMC,s Vår veteranmarknad was held at Degeberga stugby. It was the 21st market and the event’s 20th year. As a vehicle-culture market, it offered a different focus from the museum, church and local heritage park.
