Grevie – Nature Trails, Church and Railway Station Area

If you are looking for a place for your trip where nature trails and historically shaped culture stand side by side, Grevie offers two clearly distinct starting points: the landscape of Grevie åsar and Grevie Church. The picture is complemented by a hiking trail between Båstad and Grevie and the old railway station area along Grevie Banvall.

Nature experience on Grevie åsar

The ridges of Grevie åsar have never been used for agriculture and therefore have never been fertilised, creating favourable conditions for a rich variety of flora. They are also home to the largest populations of pasqueflowers on the Bjäre Peninsula. The landscape thus combines a special botanical significance with a concrete hiking experience: Grevie åsar offers views across Skälderviken Bay, while juniper bushes, meadow flowers and small patches of woodland provide variety along the hike.

The orange-marked Skåneleden runs partly along the circular trail on Grevie åsar and connects its eastern and western entrances. Sinarpsdalen lies between Båstad and Grevie and is a 3.5-kilometre hiking trail through moderately challenging terrain. Its western section features a small-scale cultural landscape with high natural and cultural-historical values. The two trails have different focal points: the Skåneleden connects two access points on the ridge, while Sinarpsdalen runs between two towns through moderately challenging terrain.

Grevie Church with Medieval Traces

Grevie Church has been documented since the early Middle Ages. Parts of the church built in 1170 have survived, including the sandstone arch at the main entrance. The present building is a 19th-century church. This combination of older structural elements and a later church building makes the site's historical development particularly easy to read.

The furnishings include an altarpiece created by Pär Siegård in 1937. It was his first altarpiece of this kind and was inspired by the view of Skälderviken and Kullaberg from above the church. The church also preserves two medieval objects: a holy-water basin in the porch and the foot of the baptismal font. Railway Station Area, Bike Service and Art

At the old railway station area in Grevie along Bjäre Banvall, there are toilets, a bicycle pump and access to drinking water. The Bikepoint at Grevie Banvall also offers a bicycle pump and water for refilling your water bottle.

The artwork “Vila” by Ulla and Gustav Kraitz also stands at the old railway station area along the railway line in Grevie. It is a stone bench with two bronze cats; the work was inaugurated on 4 June 2021. Nature, church art, cycling facilities and public art thus offer different reasons to explore Grevie and its surroundings more closely.
