Coast, Marina and Sheltered Beach

Sønderballe Marina is located in Genner Bugt on the Little Belt. The sheltered bay near the marina has a child-friendly sandy beach.

The slipway at Sønderballe Marina is used for water sports and fishing. Sønderballe Strand Camping offers, among other things, canoe rental. Visiting sailors have access to Fiskerhuset, which is equipped with tables and chairs. The sheltered bay provides a different setting from the slipway: at the beach, spending time on the coast is the focus, while at the facility, the focus is on water sports and fishing.

Marked Routes for Stages and Walks

Camino Haderslev Næs is a 106-kilometre marked route divided into nine stages. It passes through fields and forests and runs along gravel paths, country roads and cycle paths. Those who do not plan to complete the route in one go can treat the nine stages as separate sections. The different surfaces are relevant when dividing a stage because the route does not follow a single type of path.

A path connection leads from Næssets Camino through Sønderballe to Kaløstien. There are also marked walking routes from the Spis Sønderballe project near Sønderballe. When choosing a route, both the stages of the Camino and the walking routes near Sønderballe are therefore available.

Landscape, Hills and Sea Views

The Sønderballe area combines coast, forests, lakes, ponds, varied farmland, hilly terrain and a cosy old farming village. The coastal landscape near Sønderballe is largely characterised by an untouched character and a natural state. The Store Have viewpoint lies between Genner Bugt and Diernæs Bugt. From there, there is a special view of the sea on both sides of the hill, as well as of Løjt Land, Nordals and Barsø.

Historical Traces Around Sønderballe

It is estimated that the farming village of Sønderballe has existed at its present location since the 13th century and had a landing place at Sønderballe Strand. The Sønderballe area contains settlement remains from the Early Stone Age, the Stone Age, the Bronze Age, the Iron Age and the Viking Age. The building at Sønderballe Hoved 1 is listed as a protected monument. The farmhouse dwelling is estimated to have been built around 1800.

A marked route leads to the old water mill Slibemøllen and runs along its mill pond. For a walk with a historical focus, this marked route provides a specific path to an old water mill by the pond.
