Snoghøj between the Little Belt, nature park and bridge history

Snoghøj combines coast and beach with views of the Little Belt. The Snoghøjgårdparken natural area is located in Lillebælt Nature Park, which covers 370 km² and is considered Denmark’s largest marine nature park. In Snoghøj, you can plan your stay around the coastal route, views across the water, historic bridges or activities on the Little Belt.

Coast, nature and the 2.4-kilometre route

The “Snoghøjgårdparken og broturen” route is 2.4 kilometres long and passes through woodland and meadow areas as well as along the coast of the Little Belt. Along this route, woodland, meadows and coastline follow one another. The 2.4 kilometres can be planned as a walk in its own right by the Little Belt. For planning the day, the route length provides a clear framework; at the same time, the walk remains focused on the landscapes of Snoghøjgårdparken and the coast. The route length of 2.4 kilometres is therefore the central fixed factor when planning this walk.

The Old Little Belt Bridge up close and from above

The Old Little Belt Bridge was completed in 1935 and was the first fixed connection between Jutland and Funen. During Bridgewalking, visitors can walk on top of the bridge at a height of 60 metres above sea level and look out over the Little Belt, Jutland and Funen. This makes it possible to experience the landscape both along the coast and from an elevated perspective. The coastal route runs along the Little Belt, while Bridgewalking on the bridge opens up an elevated perspective.

Snoghøj and its maritime history

Snoghøj’s history extends beyond the era of the bridges. In the Middle Ages, a ferry connection to Middelfart operated from Snoghøj. In 1913, Højskolen Snoghøj was founded as a fishery college. In 1929, a construction site for the building of the Little Belt Bridge was established in Snoghøj.

Snorkelling and seasonal fishing

Snoghøj also has a diving site and a fishing spot by the water. Snoghøj diving site is suitable for snorkelling. Seasonal garfish occur at Snoghøj fishing spot; there are also opportunities to catch mackerel, cod and flatfish. The seasonal reference to garfish limits the described catch to a specific time of year.

A short tent stay by the Little Belt

At the Snoghøjgårdpark campsite, you may stay free of charge for a maximum of two nights; the site cannot be booked. The Snoghøjgårdpark campsite is 200 metres from the Little Belt, allowing a stay in a tent to be combined with a swim in the Little Belt. The limit of a maximum of two nights sets a clear time frame for the campsite. When planning the distance between the campsite and the Little Belt, the 200-metre distance can be taken into account as a short walk.
