Sculptures and history in Give

Skulpturby Give presents around 90 sculptures arranged around the town as an open-air gallery. Skulpturby Give also organises two festivals in the town every year together with Give Handel & Erhverv and the Give Udviklingsråd. The Art & Sculpture Festival takes place in June, while the Ice Sculpture Festival is held in December. For a festival-themed trip, these two months are the relevant times to consider.

Give Church was built in the 12th century at a holy spring. Give Museum is dedicated to the cultural history of the heath and the formative interactions in the borderland between the heath of western Jutland and the farmland of eastern Jutland. It also has a large outdoor area with an allotment garden, the kilns of the Jutland potter and a forest playground in Museumsskoven.

At Skulpturby Give, it is possible to take a guided cycling tour to sculptures on the outskirts of the town. It ends at the “Solhjul”, where the story of the 11-metre-high wheel is told. Those planning this tour can include the outskirts as the starting area and the “Solhjul” as the endpoint in the same outing.

Cycling routes and swimming

The Give-Thyregod Rundt route is a 55-kilometre circuit with 450 metres of elevation gain. On this circuit, the distance and elevation gain together form part of the planning of time and effort. The 450 metres of elevation gain supplement the circuit’s kilometre distance with information about the terrain. The Hærvejen cycling route is signposted as National Route 3. Give Outdoor Swimming Pool has a heated 25-metre pool with diving boards, as well as two children’s pools with slides. The pool complex is connected to Give Camping, which includes, among other facilities, a cafeteria. The pools, diving boards and slides offer a different focus from the two cycling routes.

Forest, slopes and lakes

North of Give lies the Hastrup Plantage woodland, with good walking trails and beautiful nature. The marked change within the area is important when choosing terrain: the large western part is almost flat. To the east, the terrain drops with steep slopes towards the Skjern Å and Hastrup Sø; east of the river valley, it is more hilly. When choosing between the almost flat western area and the more hilly area east of the river valley, this terrain profile serves as a specific criterion. The transition from almost flat terrain to steep slopes occurs within the plantation in an easterly direction.

In the wider area around Give lies Rørbæk Sø, a pronounced glacial meltwater lake from the Ice Age. Along its entire length, it is surrounded by woodland and steep slopes with heath and juniper bushes. The different terrain forms of Hastrup Plantage and the continuous lakeside landscape surrounding Rørbæk Sø provide two clearly distinct landscapes for planning walks and nature observation.
