Huddinge between Forest, Water and Culture

Huddinge can be explored through three distinct travel interests: extensive natural areas, active trails by the water and a diverse cultural landscape. If you choose a destination based on its landscapes and experiences, the range here extends from pathless forests and marshlands to museums, art and historic buildings. Huddinge railway station is also an important reference point for getting around the municipality: commuter trains and bus services meet there, connecting the area with other parts of the municipality and the Stockholm region.

Nature between Forest, Marshes and Lakes

Flemingsbergsskogen is one of the largest pathless forest areas in Stockholm County. The area is characterised by marshes and coniferous forest, creating a distinctly different landscape from the open areas of the Orlången Nature Reserve. The Orlången Nature Reserve features a varied, open landscape. Nocturnal wildlife includes tawny owls and hunting bats.

The Paradiset Nature Reserve combines several types of landscape: the area includes old-growth forest, marshlands, fields, pastureland and several lakes. Rest areas and wind shelters are available there. If you are looking for a longer route through a variety of environments, Huddingeleden offers a route of just under 80 kilometres. It passes through untouched forests, alongside lakes rich in birdlife, through a vibrant cultural landscape and through built-up areas with high-rise buildings and villas. The entire Huddingeleden runs through 13 protected natural areas.

Trails, Water and Active Days

A special connection with the water can be found in the Drevviken Nature Reserve: from there, you can canoe to Kalvfjärden in the Baltic Sea. Flottsbro also has a 100-metre-long beach with two bathing jetties and a guest jetty. Flottsbro Bike Park offers trails for beginners through to advanced riders. The area also includes a ski resort with a vertical drop of 103 metres and a longest run of 700 metres.

Stenbergsleden, also known as Gröna spåret, runs between Sundby and Visättra through rocky pine forest, spruce forest, marshlands and pastureland. At the entrance to Sundby Gård, there is a large car park and information boards. From there, you can reach the marked Gröna spåret and Huddingeleden trails. There is also a two-kilometre illuminated loop. On one section of Huddingeleden, a hike passes through deciduous and spruce forest with views of Lake Drevviken.

Mills, Museums and Art

One of the notable cultural sites is Balingsta kvarn on Lake Orlången. It is Huddinge’s only surviving older mill and has been preserved in an almost unchanged condition. The Litografiska museet is a working museum with a lithography workshop and exhibition hall. At Nyboda hembygds- och skolmuseum, you can see objects and gain an impression of what interiors looked like from the late 19th century onwards.

Fullersta GÃ¥rd presents an arts programme featuring professional artists who have exhibited both in Sweden and internationally. Huddinge is also home to works by the renowned satirist EWK and poet Karin Boye; both had close ties to Huddinge. In this way, cultural history complements the nature and water experiences with specific places and names.
