Ingå: Church Art and Archipelago Nature
Accommodation in Ingå
In the centre of Ingå stands Ingå Church, dedicated to Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of seafarers. Its north wall features the rare 16th-century mural “Dance of Death”. It depicts the course of the Black Death. The maritime dedication and the historic image offer two different points of connection with the local history.
Village Centre and Views
An observation tower was completed on Prästgårdsberget, in the middle of the village, in summer 2026. It offers views over Ingå kyrkby and Kyrkfjärden. Also on the hill is an exercise staircase: it is 104 metres long and not straight, and several of its landings have benches. The staircase is suitable both for exercise and Sunday strolls. The tower and staircase thus offer two different ways to experience a stay in the village: a view and an opportunity to be active.
Cultural History in the Municipality of Ingå
The local history museum features more than 20 historic buildings, most of which were built through community effort. The buildings and objects come from different parts of Ingå. In Fagervik, you can explore the ironworks on foot; the museum tells visitors about the history of the works and the manor. Both attractions offer insights into different aspects of the municipality’s history.
On Porsö, a former coastal fort has decommissioned, camouflaged guns, fire-control towers and bunkers. Visitors can enter some of the bunkers; conditions on site may change. Check the latest information before visiting.
Nature and Activities in the Municipality of Ingå
Opened in 2025, the nature trail in Västankvarn has loop routes of 1.75 and 3.2 kilometres. They pass through old-growth forest, a hazel grove, bog and wetland, and by the Kalbergshyllorna rock formation. The two lengths offer a choice of shorter or longer walks. In the Kopparnäs-Störsviken recreational area, 15 kilometres of undeveloped coastline stretch out. The area is suitable for walking, running and cycling; an observation tower offers the chance to watch migratory birds.
Archipelago, Water and Island Destinations
The shallow, sandy strait between Porsö and Ryssklobben is suitable for swimming and paddling, but is not navigable by large boats. It was formerly called Porsöklobben. At the northern end of Stora Halsö, there is a jetty, buoys and mooring rings. The island also has a campfire site, an outhouse and a self-service sauna.
Gölisnäs lies at the southern tip of the island of Orslandet in Ingå. Archipelago forest, sheltered bays, coastal cliffs and small paths through hilly terrain define the area. There are several jetties, campfire sites, two saunas and overnight accommodation. Stora Fagerö is easy to land on; the island has services and numerous camping spots. Check the latest information in advance: facilities on Stora Halsö may change, and maintenance and the season affect what is available in Gölisnäs.
