In the 19th century, fishermen lived in Järnäsklubb, while farmers lived in Järnäs. This different character forms part of the area's historical image. Järnäsklubb is a cultural landscape centred on a former pilot station and an older coastal settlement. A pilot's house built at the beginning of the 20th century stands on Storklubben.

Klubbhamnen also preserves tangible traces of coastal use. There are cookhouses and boat sheds there, as well as jetties built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The harbour includes a small-boat marina with 10 guest berths operated by Järnäs bygdegårdsförening. This means that Järnäsklubb can be viewed not only as a historic place, but also through its documented maritime function.

The Järnäsbrevet and the History of the Place

A particularly distinctive record is the Järnäsbrevet. This historic parchment document has been in the possession of the villagers of Järnäs since it was written in 1413. In terms of content, the document concerns a dispute between the men of Järnäs and those of Bredvik. For visitors interested in the history of small coastal communities, the parchment thus points to a very specific local past.

Archipelago Nature between Land Uplift and Bird Cliffs

The landscape around Örefjärden-Snöanskärgården is also shaped by geological change. The substantial land uplift of 85 centimetres per century is one reason why Örefjärden-Snöanskärgården was designated a marine nature reserve. This figure describes a long-term change in the coastal landscape and is one of the features that distinguishes this area from the purely cultural-historical Järnäsklubb.

A striking natural landmark is Bonden, the northernmost bird cliff in the Baltic Sea. Thousands of common guillemots, razorbills and black guillemots breed there. On the archipelago island of Snöan, historic stone formations in the shape of compass roses and circular labyrinths also lie among the scree fields. In this way, the area combines protected marine nature with visible traces of human design.

The Järnäsudden Örefjärden-Snöanskärgården hiking trail leads to smooth rock slabs and the open sea.
