Greve Strand combines a broad sandy beach with harbour life, historic summer houses and paths through the coastal landscape. Sandy beach, shallow water and harbour surroundings

The broad sandy beach of Greve Strand stretches from Mosede to Hundige Havn. The beach by Greve Badehotel is about one kilometre long. There, the water is typically less than 1 m deep up to around 100 m from the shore. South of Mosede Havn, the beach is suitable for swimming and water games. Nearby Mosede Havn complements the coastal experience with a harbour setting where restaurants, clubs and recreational sailors have their place. Nearby Hundige Strandpark also expands the landscape with a 7 km-long stretch of beach featuring white sand, dunes, lakes and meadows.

Routes for walks and active days

Greve Strand offers several ways to explore the surrounding area on foot or by bicycle. The 21.7 km-long Hedebostien cycling and hiking route leads from Køge Bugt near Trylleskoven to Roskilde. The approximately 64 km-long Gudernes stræde hiking route runs from Køge Bugt to Vellerup Vig through landscapes of natural and cultural history. Shorter is an approximately 3 km-long town walk along Greve Strand, leading from Villa Olsbæk to Mosede Havn. The different route lengths help you choose a suitable focus for a walk, hike or bike ride.

Summer houses, bathing hotel and museum

The history of Greve Strand is closely linked to its development as a holiday area: from 1920 onwards, the coastal area developed into a true holiday destination with smaller summer houses and campsites. Greve Badehotel was built on the beach in the 1920s. Greve Strandkro, formerly Greve Badehotel, was built in 1926 in the Neoclassical style. A bathing establishment for visitors associated with Greve Badehotel is also documented for 1926. Villa Sitka was built in 1912 as the summer residence of director Kai Laage Thomsen and is part of the history of Greve Strand, where industrialists, artists and wealthy Copenhageners built impressive summer houses near the water at the beginning of the 20th century. On 6 August 2014, the new Mosede Fort – Danmark 1914-18 museum opened, with exhibitions about Denmark during the First World War.
