Nørre Alslev between churches, cycling routes and family time

If you are looking for historic architecture and traces that tell a story on your journey, Nørre Alslev offers a distinctive focal point: Nørre Alslev Church features wall paintings from different periods, including a striking Dance of Death by the Elmelunde Master from the late 15th century. Its apse contains a painted inscription bearing the year 1208, which probably dates the oldest parts of the church. The building comprises an Early Gothic chancel and nave, as well as late-medieval additions in the form of a porch and a tower.

Churches and regional history in and around Nørre Alslev

In the vicinity of Nørre Alslev stands the towerless Nørre Kirkeby Church, which was built in the second half of the 12th century and is one of the oldest churches in the region. Access to Nørre Kirkeby Church was available by arrangement with the sexton, Bjarne Mortensen. Also in the vicinity, Stadager Church preserves remnants of a fresco from 1250 depicting “Mikael som sjælevejer”, a Romanesque limestone baptismal font and a memorial stone from 1551. Nørre Vedby Church was built in the second half of the 13th century; it is known as the “Cathedral of North Falster” and colloquially as “Høje Maren”. A small exhibition about Vålse Vig and two key figures in the history of the area is located in the pumping station at Vålse Vig.

Nørre Alslev Gymnastikforening offers the two-hour family activity “Hop i hallen” for children aged 0 to 6 and their parents or other accompanying adults. Nordfalster Svømmecenter has a sports pool, a warm-water pool and a paddling pool for the youngest children, as well as a wellness area with a Turkish bath and infrared sauna. This puts different day interests centre stage: exercise with small children on the one hand, and water and wellness areas on the other.

Gardens, shelters and two cycling routes

Spejderhaven features a landscaped kitchen garden, an insect hotel, water sources and brushwood hedges for wildlife. There are also two shelters, one located in the “forest” and the other in the “garden”. In the vicinity of Nørre Alslev, the Vålse Vig shelter site has a spacious shelter for five guests, a small tent area and a fire pit; a year-round toilet with drinking water is located 500 metres from the harbour. For cycling enthusiasts, the Munkevejen and national cycling route 7 pass directly by Bavnehøj Fritidsområde.
