Reersø between Coast, Harbor, and History

Reersø combines a distinctive coastal landscape, maritime history, and routes for walks of varying lengths on a single peninsula. In southern Reersø, Reersø Rev extends into the sea as a long, narrow spit of sand and stones; the south coast is characterized by lower, softer beach meadows. To the west, the hill has an active cliff coast overlooking the Storebælt. These contrasts give you clear orientation: when planning your trip, you can weigh the coast, beach, harbor, nature, and historic sites differently.

For further orientation, you can also consider Saltbæk, Bjerge, Jerslev Sj, Høng, Kalundborg, Kongstrup, Nostrup, and Havnsø.

Marked Trails and Two Coastal Landscapes

Musholmleden is a marked regional coastal hiking route from Reersø to Korsør railway station. Reersø also has marked Cloverleaf Trails with routes ranging from two to ten kilometers in length. The two types of routes offer different focuses for trip planning. Reersø Nordstrand has a sandy beach with calm, shallow water. There are good parking facilities nearby. The beach complements the marked trails with a coastal aspect featuring sand and calm water.

Fishing Harbor at the Tip of the Peninsula

Reersø Havn is a small fishing harbor at the tip of the Reersø peninsula. The fishing harbor has a harbor basin, breakwaters, a slipway, small boats hauled ashore, and fishing-related buildings. The focus here is therefore on concrete maritime features: the harbor basin, the breakwaters, the boats, and the fishing buildings.

Church, Monument, and Local Legend

Reersø Church was inaugurated on July 10, 1904. It stands on elevated ground on the eastern side of the Reersø peninsula by the Storebælt and offers expansive views over the beach meadows and farmland to the east. For visitors interested in culture, the church’s age and its setting in the landscape come together here.

Dronningestenen and a nine-square-meter area around it were protected as a monument in 1932. The stone is associated with a local legend according to which Queen Margaret I was carried ashore on the coast of Reersø after her ship sank.

Reersø Museum and Local History

At Reersø Museum, the everyday life of poor fishing farmers at the beginning of the 19th century is presented. The museum building is protected as a monument and probably dates from the early 18th century (1726). In 1926, it was restored by Thorkild Gravlund, partially returned to its former condition, and established as a museum. Here, the history of fishing life, heritage protection, and the building’s architectural development over several centuries come together.

Reersø is known for its population of tailless cats. If you are looking for a hotel in Reersø, you can plan around the documented highlights: the marked trails represent different route lengths, the North Beach offers sand and calm, shallow water, Reersø Havn provides a maritime character, while the church, Dronningestenen, and museum add historical accents. The landscape ranges from the active cliff coast on the western hill, through the beach meadows of the south coast, to the narrow spit of Reersø Rev. This allows you to refine your desired trip concept between hiking, coast, nature, and history.
