Grenå

The small town of Grenå, at the eastern tip of the Djursland peninsula, is both the peninsula’s principal town and, above all, known as a ferry port. Ferries operate from here to the Danish island of Anholt, located in the middle of the Kattegat, and to the Swedish port of Varberg. Grenå is considered the geographical centre of Denmark. As the largest town on the Djursland peninsula, it offers a wide range of shopping, with a large number of specialist shops.

Very close to the town centre is a 400-hectare landscape of woodland and heath, with an extensive network of paths that invites visitors to explore by bike, on horseback or on foot. Right at the mouth of the small river Grenå, a modern marina welcomes the many recreational boaters along Jutland’s east coast. The Kattegat Centre is located right next to the harbour. This 6,000-square-metre facility provides information about the sea’s natural conditions, marine life and the impact people have on the world’s oceans.

The Djursland peninsula has numerous bathing beaches, particularly along its eastern coast. South of the harbour is one of Denmark’s most beautiful and family-friendly beaches. There are plenty of hotels and campsites around Grenå, as well as, above all, holiday homes for the many tourists. Sports centres, a go-kart track and an indoor swimming pool offer opportunities for an active holiday. Anyone who would like to try sea fishing can charter a boat at the harbour or simply join a trip.
