Randers

The city of Randers lies in the central part of the Danish peninsula of Jutland, about 25 kilometres from the Baltic coast of the Kattegat, at the end of the long, narrow Randers Fjord.

Randers is notable for its churches, built between the 14th century and 1994. The magnificent Old Town Hall dominates the city’s main square. The Model Railway Museum, Modelbane Europa, in the Hadsund district offers a unique journey through Central Europe. Randers is also home to the only Elvis Presley Museum of its kind outside the USA. Since 2008, the city’s tropical rainforest, “Randers Regnskov,” has been a tourist attraction of national importance. Beneath three enormous domes, it recreates the rainforests of Asia, Africa and South America in lifelike detail.

The Randers Fjord is particularly important for holidays in and around Randers, serving as a “route” from the city to the Baltic coast of the Kattegat. The Fjord Center, about halfway to the Baltic Sea, is the hub for activities and information about holiday options. Two marinas are located at the fjord’s entrance in Udbyhøj. The Randers Fjord is also a popular destination for fishing trips and canoeing. Two golf courses in the area offer another way to enjoy this popular Danish pastime.
