Fakse

Upon arriving in the municipality of Fakse, one should first close one’s eyes and experience the tranquillity that Fakse nevertheless manages to radiate with such strength. Set in the landscape of the same name, Fakse Ladeplads, and situated on the Baltic bay of the same name, Fakse proves to be a paradise for excursions into the Danish lake district.

The houses in Fakse are built of red brick, but the town no longer really needs this bold colour to stand out. Fakse has a rural feel, yet it is a very well-known place. One of Denmark’s best-known breweries is located here. Thanks to Fakse øl canned beer and a stroke of genius, the beer brewed here at the family-run brewery has established itself on the international market. To find out how this liquid gold is made, the brewery offers guided tours several times a day.

Fakse is only a few kilometres from the Baltic Sea’s bathing beaches. Together with the neighbouring municipality of Rødvig, a small villa town with an impressive harbour, these white-sand beaches invite visitors to enjoy a Baltic Sea holiday on the Stevns Peninsula. Both places offer a range of popular holiday apartments and houses. Lime has been quarried for centuries in the pits of the hilly countryside near Fakse. Where limestone has accumulated in such quantities, fossil collectors are never far away. The museum in Fakse, one of the town’s attractions, displays some very interesting specimens. A drive to the two mills near the municipality of Fakse also offers wonderful insights into life on the Baltic coast south of Copenhagen.
