Baltic Sea Cruising Guide
The Baltic Sea, a large inland sea, is ideal for recreational sailors and one of the most popular cruising grounds of all. Within a relatively compact area, its shores bring together several countries and cultures, as well as a wide variety of coastlines. Where better to take in this diversity than from the water? Doing so, however, requires some important preparation, as outlined in the Baltic Sea cruising guide featured here. Already updated for its sixth edition in 2014, the book initially surprises with its own definition of the Baltic Sea’s extent. In the northwest, it reaches as far as the Oslofjord and Norway’s southern tip. This proves a practical choice, given that the area borders the territory covered by the companion North Sea cruising guide. Conversely, the Gulf of Bothnia, including the Åland Islands, is omitted entirely, while the Gulf of Finland is covered only along its southern coast and throughout its Russian section.

Exceptional attention to detail
The Baltic Sea cruising guide leaves recreational sailors with little to wish for, even when you consider that Delius Klasing Verlag also publishes cruising guides for limited sections of the Baltic coast. This comprehensive guide makes the specialized guides almost superfluous. In practice, it allows you to circumnavigate the Baltic Sea within the area it covers.
After a general description of each coastal section, including distances between harbours, come extremely detailed accounts of buoyage, currents and wind conditions, navigational hazards such as heavy weed growth, military exclusion zones and nature reserves, bridge clearances, power lines and, of course, water depths. These are conveniently supplemented and illustrated with small maps and drawings. To help make every trip a success, each major section begins with additional information on weather conditions, legal matters and sea rescue.
