From Singing Bowl Therapy to Lymphatic Drainage
Singing bowl therapy
Several bowls are placed on the body of the person lying down and struck. According to Tibetan Buddhist tradition, the resulting vibrations are said to release tension in the body, mind and soul, unleash energy and stimulate the body’s own healing powers. The energy can then flow freely through the body. Singing bowl therapy can undoubtedly promote relaxation. Further effects have not yet been proven.
Kneipp therapy
Sebastian Kneipp, born in 1821, founded this approach, which saved his life after he contracted tuberculosis at the age of 18. Kneipp therapy has seen a considerable revival in recent years. It is based on a holistic approach to naturopathic medicine comprising five pillars:
- Hydrotherapy is based on the many healing properties of water. It includes Kneipp water treatments and walking in water.
- Nutritional therapy is based on a varied whole-food diet.
- Exercise therapy promotes walking barefoot and avoiding restrictive clothing.
- Phytotherapy harnesses the healing properties of medicinal plants.
- With regulatory therapy, Kneipp advocates a mindful lifestyle that promotes good health.
Kneipp medicine is based on the effect of environmental stimuli on the body. It does not contradict conventional medicine, but complements it and is recognized as an adjunctive therapy. Above all, however, Kneipp therapy is a way to maintain good health and prevent illness. More and more spa towns are seeking the title of “Kneipp spa town.”
Light therapy
The healing effects of light have been proven, and light therapy was already used by the ancient Egyptians. Light is separated into its spectral components and applied in a targeted way to treat various symptoms, including seasonal affective disorder, sleep disorders—for example, those caused by shift work—and disruptions to the “body clock.”
Treatment usually takes place daily over a period of two weeks using a high-intensity light device. It is important that the light also enters through the eyes. Improvement can occur within just a few days.
Lymphatic drainage
Lymphatic drainage activates the body’s lymphatic system through gentle massage. The lymphatic system is part of the body’s immune system and is also responsible for fluid drainage. Manual lymphatic drainage is intended to relieve congestion in the system. Treatment lasts several weeks, with one or two massages each day. It must not be used in cases of thrombosis, heart disease or cancer of the lymph nodes.
