Marinas
A Baltic Sea holiday with your own boat
As an inland sea, the Baltic is ideally suited to yachts, smaller sailing boats and pleasure craft. In recent years, the harbours needed as home ports, starting points, holiday destinations or stopovers on a voyage around the Baltic have not only increased in number, but have also made significant improvements to the services they offer. Many of the larger marinas are located in sheltered Baltic bays or protected from wind and waves along the outer coast by stone breakwaters. The short distances between individual harbours, from Denmark to Poland, allow skippers to plan manageable day trips while taking in the main sights along the way.
Services for a Baltic Sea holiday
Large marinas have sprung up along the Baltic Sea, particularly since the start of this century. Some were built on former military sites, while others were newly developed in coastal areas. With several hundred berths in some cases and a wide range of services, they are increasingly becoming holiday destinations in their own right. Even the most committed skipper is happy to enjoy a comfortable night in a hotel as a brief stopover. Most of the large Baltic marinas also offer charter options, often combined with training for sailing or motorboat licences.
The appeal of the Baltic as a popular cruising ground for recreational boaters lies precisely in the mix of large facilities offering every imaginable comfort and small, peaceful harbours.
On these pages, we would like to introduce the major harbours and the services they offer. You can find an overview of smaller leisure harbours under the Water Sports section. We welcome accounts of your experiences or tips from skippers (please email news@ostsee-netz.de).
