If you’d like to include nature and history in your trip to Lyckeby, you’ll find a range of ways to explore them: river landscapes, protected areas and hiking trails sit alongside traces of milling and historic architecture. Your choice of where to stay may therefore be shaped by tranquil natural scenery, a specific trail or cultural and historical themes.

River Landscapes and Nature Trails

The Lyckebyån is classified as a particularly valuable watercourse because of its cultural and historical value. Its habitats range from calm coastal estuaries to rapids, where trout and freshwater pearl mussels can be found. The classification highlights its cultural and historical value; alongside this, the diversity of its habitats defines the river as a nature destination.

The nature reserves each have their own character, too. Ekebacken, also known as Lyckeby ekebacke, is located near the centre of Lyckeby, east of Karlskrona. Prästamarken has broadleaf trees and a reed-fringed bay. Several trails from the southeast of Lyckeby lead into the reserve. The natural attractions therefore differ: Ekebacken is defined by its location, while Prästamarken is known for its trees, bay and trails.

For a hike, the Lyckåleden offers a clearly defined option. The trail is about 7 km long and runs from Lyckåvallen in the south to Lyckåborg in the north. Between the waterfall at Augerum and Lyckeåborg, it passes several rapids, where the river is surrounded by broadleaf forests. The same route thus combines an approximate total distance with a specifically described stretch of river and forest.

Public fishing is available along the lower Lyckebyån, from the mouth to Biskopsberg, over a distance of about 10 km. For a swim, Ringö is near Lyckeby: it is a family-friendly bathing spot with a playground and a large lawn. Fishing on the river and swimming at Ringö are different ways to spend time by the water. For families, Ringö’s specific features include the playground and lawn as well as the bathing spot. The fishing stretch is longer than the hiking trail.

Industrial History and Historic Traces

Lyckeby Kronokvarn brings together production history and heritage. Built as a larger mill complex in 1721, it ground flour for the bakery on Stumholmen. In 1995, the mill was designated a listed building. The two dates represent different aspects: the mill’s operation for a specific bakery and its later designation as a listed building.

Another historical connection concerns the ruins of Lyckå Castle: a large part of their stonework was reused for the new city fortifications of Kristianopel. While the mill is associated with flour production, the focus at the ruins is on the reuse of their masonry.

Parking is available in the centre of Lyckeby for the Storgårdsvandring.
