Boizenburg/Elbe is considered the westernmost town in Mecklenburg and is located in a tri-state border region with Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein. At the same time, the town lies within the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve River Landscape of Elbe-Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Landscape

The Ziegelberg hill is located in the vicinity of Boizenburg/Elbe. The surrounding area also contains the Schwarze Berg hill.

History

Boizenburg's medieval development included the construction of St. Mary's Church and the growth of a merchants' colony between the church square and a lowland castle. The settlement was granted Lübeck town rights in 1267. The wider regional area is home to Goldammer's Grave and the Franzosenschanze cultural and historical monument.

Culture

The surrounding area contains the Lauenburg castle tower, the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, the Fürstengarten gardens, and the Krüzen Wildlife Park. A Masonic temple in Boizenburg/Elbe is depicted from the side of the ramparts; its east and north sides are visible.
