Lübtheen is located in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region in southwestern Mecklenburg. The town is nestled in the Lower Saxony Elbe Valley Biosphere Reserve and lies approximately 13 kilometers from the Elbe.
Nature
The Sude and Rögnitz rivers flow through the municipal area of Lübtheen. The Fuchsberg hill is located nearby. The surrounding area also includes Sandberg, Thomsberg, and Galgenberg.
History
Since 1654, Lübtheen had been located on the old Berlin–Hamburg postal road and had a main post office. On March 18, 1822, Lübtheen was elevated to market-town status by a grand ducal decree.
