Bützow is a small town in northern Germany on the Warnow River and is considered a former bishop’s residence as well as a university town.

History

Between 1699 and 1703, Huguenot families settled in Bützow; they were involved in wool processing and tobacco cultivation.

Culture

A Reformed church in Bützow is considered unique in northeastern Germany; it emerged from the French Reformed and German Reformed congregations. Bützow Castle is located in the immediate vicinity of Bützow. Güstrow Castle and the Groß Raden open-air museum are located in the surrounding area of Bützow.

Buchenberg and Voßbarg are located in the immediate vicinity of Bützow; Dornbusch is located in the wider regional area surrounding Bützow. The climate forest planting area south of Bützow was planted from autumn 2010 onward across two hectares as a future climate forest, primarily with oak trees as well as wild fruit trees and shrubs; it can be reached via the L 11 toward Tarnow, and there are parking spaces near the site.
