The Larsmo archipelago gives the municipality of Larsmo its maritime character. Water, island recreation areas and maritime culture shape the possibilities for a holiday here. In summer, activities include boating and visiting sandy beaches in the outer archipelago; in winter, options include walking or skiing on the ice, as well as ice fishing. Weather and ice conditions can vary.

Recreation Areas and Time by the Water

The recreation area at Inre Bergskär offers sea views, a barbecue area and a wind shelter; it is located near the Larsmo fishing harbour. Köpmanholmen is a publicly accessible recreation area in the municipality. It has a restaurant, sauna, beach, moorings, an observation tower and a conference room. The island therefore offers a range of options for spending time by the water.

Travel by the m/s Wilma water taxi and use of the rowing boats are free of charge. As transport and use conditions may change, check them before your trip. The combined café and restaurant on Köpmanholmen is open from late June to mid-August; check its seasonal opening dates before your visit. Private bookings are possible; check availability with the operator. Overnight stays at Olofsborg are also free of charge. Confirm the current arrangements before planning to stay there.

Maritime Culture and Historic Sites

The sculpture Perca navicula in Larsmo Square was created by Simon Gripenberg and inaugurated in summer 2020. A perch represents nature, while a Larsmo boat represents culture. In Bosund, the Bosund Boat, Fishing and Hunting Museum displays traditional farm boats, fishing equipment, hunting gear and other objects from Ostrobothnia’s cultural heritage. The collection thus brings together everyday maritime objects and the region’s history.

The old fishing village on the island of Öuran (Örarna), an outermost outpost of the Larsmo archipelago, offers a glimpse into the archipelago’s history. Other historical sites include the wooden church of Larsmo, completed in 1787 and designed by Jacob Rijf, and the old stone barn at Kvarnbacken. The restored barn is used for meetings and exhibitions in summer. The church and barn thus represent different aspects of the built heritage and its use.

The Bjärgas Museum is located in Holm. Exhibits include miniature buildings from the 1930s, a village shop from the 1950s, old toys and textiles, and a herb garden. Special exhibitions and a souvenir shop round out the offering; check current opening arrangements before visiting.

Active Adventures in Holm and the Archipelago

The Larsmo Sports Park in Holm brings together a range of ways to get active. The adventure playground offers opportunities for balancing, climbing and riding the zip line. The disc golf course was completed in autumn 2022; there is also a skate and pump track below Cronhjelmskolan. Since November 2024, the park has had an outdoor fitness machine for a full-body workout. The trailheads for the Holm Nature Trail and Larsmo Nature Trail are opposite the sports park car park.

For those looking beyond individual facilities to a longer route, the 44-kilometre Larsmo Trail is another option. It passes through several villages and alongside lakes and streams, with rest areas along the way. Unlike the concentrated facilities at the sports park, the trail focuses on a route through the landscape; its length and course offer a different framework for planning a day.

Another seasonal place to visit is the Tyynelä Elf Village in Eugmo, Larsmo. Visitors are welcomed there in July and December; group bookings are possible outside these periods. Check current visiting dates before including the village in your travel plans. The options in Larsmo range from island and water experiences to maritime history, sports park activities and longer routes.
