The wider Bytów destination has its own cultural and historical highlight: Bytów Castle. It was built between 1398 and 1405 on a rectangular plan. The West Kashubian Museum is located in its north wing. Its ethnographic collections are complemented by temporary exhibitions of contemporary painting, photography, and folk art. The architecture and museum themes thus offer different perspectives on the castle. It is also part of the Route of Gothic Castles established in northern Poland.
Another building in the wider Bytów destination is St. Catherine’s Church. It was built between 1847 and 1854 to a design by Schindler as a three-aisled hall church, modeled on Berlin’s St. Matthew’s Church. Its Gothic tower dates from the first half of the 14th century. On four levels, the tower presents permanent exhibitions on archaeology and history. The furnishings also reflect particular periods: the organ dates from 1854, and the two bells from 1820 to 1821. Different historical and architectural layers therefore come together in this building.
The Bytów area also includes the railway bridge over the Boruja in Bytów, which is listed as a historic railway monument. Lake Jeleń offers a different perspective in the northern part of Bytów: it is a lobelia lake and is used mainly for recreation and tourism. Thus, alongside the castle, museum, and church history, the wider destination also includes a body of water with a recreational and tourism function.
