Between the Coast and Kępa Ostrowska
Ostrowo lies beyond the Czarna Wda, which flows parallel to the sea coast, on the Kępa Ostrowska hill. The landscape thus has a direct connection to the beach; at the same time, the river, hill and nature reserve offer other considerations when choosing where to visit. Experience Bielawa and its Nature
A five-kilometre nature trail through the Bielawa Nature Reserve begins at the Ostrowo forest ranger’s lodge. A path also leads from the centre of Ostrowo to the reserve, which is known as a habitat for cranes and a popular spot for birdwatchers. Numerous plant, bird and animal species are especially easy to observe along the nature trail from May to October. During the bird migration, flocks of cranes numbering up to several dozen birds stop there. These seasonal wildlife-watching opportunities add a distinct seasonal dimension to nature trips: visitors interested in plants and birds can consider travelling between May and October; cranes can be seen during the bird migration.
A wooden observation tower stands in the Ostrowo forest, level with the cemetery. From there, you can see the Bielawskie Błota wetlands and the Puck Land. A natural spring also rises in the western part of Kępa Ostrowska, beside the meadow path from Ostrowo to Karwia. The nature trail, observation point and spring offer different ways to experience nature: a protected habitat, views across the landscape and a specific spot along the meadow path.
On Foot, by Bike or on the Water
The blue Nadmorski, also known as the Rozewski Trail, is 28.1 kilometres long and runs through Krokowa, Ostrowo, Jastrzębia Góra, Rozewie and Władysławowo. The section between Ostrowo and Jastrzębia Góra runs along the edge of the Czarna Wda valley. If you are interested in this route, you can take its total length into account when planning your day and consider the section described as part of the trail.
There is also a 30-kilometre municipal cycling network that passes through seven localities, including Ostrowo. The cycle paths through Ostrowo are connecting routes R10 of the international EuroVelo network 10/13. For a cycling trip, both the local network and its links to these long-distance routes are useful points of reference. A kayaking route starts in Kłanino and ends in Ostrowo. Cycling and paddling are thus different ways to enjoy an active trip; the routes and endpoints mentioned can each be considered separately when planning your own trip.
Kashubian History and Exhibitions
The Zagroda Kaszubska, a branch of the Muzeum Ziemi Puckiej im. Floriana Ceynowy, is located at 35 Zabytkowa Street. Its “Pszczelarstwo Pomorskie” exhibition presents the history of beekeeping and the work involved in tending an apiary; beekeeping equipment is also on display. Another open-air exhibition, “Bielawa,” explores the origins and significance of the nature reserve. The two exhibitions thus cover different topics: the traditional craft of beekeeping and the history of the protected area. Ostrowo is also home to a historic 18th-century cottage.
