Natural Beach and Trails on Lake Großer Plöner See

Bosau's natural beach is a 150-metre-long, stone-free sandy beach with beach volleyball, a playground and a bistro. The 36-kilometre circuit around Schleswig-Holstein's largest lake can be started directly in Bosau. This means the lake offers both a clearly defined beach destination and a long circular route as different options for planning the day.

The Rote Bänke circular trail offers a historical perspective. It is 5.22 kilometres long and leads along seven red benches through the history of Bosau on Lake Großer Plöner See. Many other routes begin at the Haus des Gastes in Bosau. This makes it possible to incorporate a historical circular trail, the circuit around the lake and other routes of varying lengths into your personal planning.

Cultural Landscape and Viewpoints

Thranbruch, a historic cultural landscape with many natural meadows, is located near Bosau. Thranbruch is a drained marshland area used as pastureland; many hiking routes lead through the landscape. The Wierensredder observation tower offers views across the Thranbruch cultural landscape.

Haselnussschlucht is a natural, 300-metre-long ravine in Bosau that flows into Lake Großer Plöner See. A narrow hiking trail leads through Haselnussschlucht, across a bridge and onwards over Löjaer Berg to the Panorama Trail. At Katzburg, the Glasauniederung can be viewed from the rampart on the edge of an upland. Katzburg is a well-preserved Slavic castle complex probably dating from the 9th or 10th century; its rampart rises up to 8 metres high.

Church, Kate and Garden

St. Peter's Church was built in 1151/52 by Bishop Vicelin from fieldstones and dedicated to the Apostle Peter. It is located along the Mönchsweg long-distance cycle route. Summer concerts take place in St. Peter's Church.

Dunkersche Kate is a half-timbered building from the 17th century in Bosau, with a thatched roof, kitchen garden and historic bakery. The Katengarten, with well-maintained paths and regional planting featuring boxwood, is located directly beside Dunkersche Kate. Together with the church and Katzburg, Bosau is also a place where the landscape and history can be experienced directly through specific buildings and paths.
