Dörnick: Hotels and Accommodations

Dörnick is located between Lake Großer Plöner See, the Schwentine River and the Karperbeek. Nine-tenths of the village’s area lie within a landscape conservation area.

Nature

The Holstein Switzerland Nature Park combines numerous lakes, gentle hills, extensive forests, fields and marshes with paddling, swimming, hiking, cycling, summit hikes and birdwatching. You can explore the nature park’s attractions by bicycle, on foot or by canoe.

History

Dörnick was first documented in 1460. The village centre includes a historic fire station with a hose tower dating from 1927. Restored thatched cottages and the former village school are part of the townscape. The district of Karpe was also mentioned at an early date: its first recorded mention dates from 1275.

Routes

The approach from Federal Road 430 follows the Schwentine through Dörnick and Karpe towards the Langenrader Sventana windmill, which lies just beyond the border with Ascheberg.

Numerous designated cycle routes pass through Dörnick in the Holstein Switzerland Nature Park. The 5-Lakes Tour runs from Plön to Malente through the lake landscape of Holstein Switzerland. The route to Prinzeninsel runs directly along the water and offers expansive views across Lake Großer Plöner See.

Culture

Plön Palace Park features shady avenues that are ideal for walking. You can visit Plön Palace or the Baroque Prinzenhaus as part of a guided tour. Plön’s historic palace nursery is home to a collection of old trees.
