Culture and History

The lakeside path begins in the heart of the old estate and leads through the former park. It connects Bernhard G. Lehmann’s sculptures with a natural lakeshore landscape and is permanently open to visitors.

Thirty-five sculptures are distributed along the shoreline of the Gut Wittmoldt peninsula. The manor house at Gut Wittmoldt was built in 1895 in the historicist style. As early as the 18th century, Wittmoldt was home to an important glassworks that primarily produced bottles.

Getting Around

The Plön district has a well-developed cycling network with destination and distance signs.

Guided canoe tours in Plön pass through around five of the city’s twelve lakes. Along the way, they combine canoeing with information about the city, the lakes and Holstein Switzerland.

From Plön, the Schwentine Canoe Route leads into Lake Kleiner Plöner See and onwards towards Preetz.

The manor house at Gut Wittmoldt offers flexibly usable rooms for conferences, retreats, workshops and evening events. The facilities also include holiday accommodation and historic bed-and-breakfast rooms with direct access to the lake. Gut Wittmoldt also has a therapeutic riding facility.

A road connection to Plön brought an end to the centuries-old ferry service that ran from Wittmoldt via Dörnick and the Schwentine to Plön.
