Färingtofta: Church Village, Church Architecture and Hill Country
Accommodation in Färingtofta
Färingtofta is a church village in hilly terrain north of the Rönne å river. The history of church architecture and examples of older brickwork meet a rural setting of forest, pasture and farmland. Outside Färingtofta lies the Klingstorpabäcken Nature Reserve. If you are looking for accommodation, you can first consider whether church and architectural history or nature experiences should be the focus of your trip.
Church Village and Landscape
The surroundings of the relatively high-lying church village are dominated by pastureland. At the same time, Färingtofta lies in hilly woodland with pasture and farmland. Pastures shape the area around the church village, while woodland and farmland are other features of the landscape. Färingtofta developed along one of the old routes through the inland areas of Skåne. The location of the church village and its origins can therefore be seen as two distinct points of reference: the hills describe the landscape, while the old route provides the historical context.
Church and Brick Architecture
When the new Färingtofta kyrka was reconsecrated in 1828, it was given the name Josephinas kyrka. The tower of Färingtofta kyrka was raised by one storey in 1796. The striking grey-stone tower retains an older character. The dates mark different aspects of the church’s history: 1796 for the change to the tower, and 1828 for the naming at the reconsecration.
Färingtofta’s historic buildings include examples of brick architecture from the 1850s and 1860s. Blind brickwork and decorative bonding draw attention to the design of the wall surfaces and the pattern of the bricks. The decorative bond makes the brickwork itself a design feature. These examples therefore offer more than a way to identify the period in which they were built: the way the bricks and wall surfaces are designed also offers a distinct perspective on architectural history. Together with the church’s history, this provides more than a single historical point of reference; different architectural forms and periods can be distinguished.
Nature at Klingstorpabäcken
The Klingstorpabäcken stream winds through woodland and open countryside in hilly terrain outside Färingtofta. The stream is home to trout and the now-rare freshwater pearl mussel. Several small gravel roads and paths run through the Klingstorpabäcken Nature Reserve; in places, the terrain along the stream is difficult to access. This distinction is important for finding your way around: the paths in the area and the hard-to-reach sections along the stream are different aspects of a visit.
Tornsborgs Tivoli
Another facet of Färingtofta is Tornsborgs Tivoli, with its large function hall for up to 200 people. The 2026 programme lists a dance there every other Thursday from 17:00 to 20:30, organised by SPF Färingtofta. Check the specific dates in the programme before your trip. This adds a cultural offering to the area’s architectural and natural history, and its schedule calls for a separate look at your travel dates.
