Landscape, Lake and Early Local History

Björnlunda is situated by Kyrksjön. Björnlunda kyrka stands on a rise above the lake; its nave, the oldest part of the church, was built in the 12th century. Its location and building history offer two concrete points of interest if you would like to include nature and history in your travel plans.

There are hiking trails on Skansberget, where Bronze Age graves are also located. If you are interested in archaeology while hiking, you will find both at the same site. The hilly surroundings alternate between farmland and woodland, creating a scenic contrast with the individual historic sites.

Local History and Traditions

Björnlunda hembygdsgård has 19 buildings and the herb garden Per i Vibys örtagård. Alongside the well-preserved old buildings are furniture, tools, and other objects; written local stories have a strong connection to the area. Buildings, objects, and stories thus offer different ways to explore local history.

Smedja från Näset is another tangible insight into the area’s heritage: it is fully equipped with blacksmithing tools. Björnlunda hembygdsgård hosts events including Midsummer celebrations, a homecoming day, and singing evenings. A Christmas market is also among the events. Dates and arrangements may vary; check the details before planning.

Hiking, Cycling and Nature

Eriksgatan runs for 21 km from Björnlunda hembygdsgård to Aspa. The section between Björnlunda and Aspa has been prepared as a hiking and cycling trail. There are around 15 well-maintained archaeological and cultural heritage sites along Eriksgatan. This combines a longer route with specific historic stops.

Gnestaleden is a 10 km hiking and cycling trail between Gnesta and Karlslund. At 10 km, it is shorter than the 21 km Eriksgatan; the routes also have different endpoints. There is also a nature loop with a birdwatching tower at Jakobsberg in Björnlunda. Trail conditions on Eriksgatan and Gnestaleden may change; check them before planning.

Activities in the Village and by Kyrksjön

The outdoor gym is at Spontanidrottsplats in the center of Björnlunda. The mini-golf course is also in the center. Daga bangolfbana is ideal for a relaxed round of friendly competition with the whole family. Just outside the center, on the shore of Kyrksjön, is Björnlundaborgen: a playground with various swings, a sandbox, and space to play ball.

Café Dagaborg is on road 57 at the edge of Björnlunda. It serves ice cream, homemade pastries, and homemade sandwiches; opening hours may vary. Check them before planning a visit. Road 57 runs through Björnlunda. Buses run daily on the Gnesta–Flen route; check the current timetable for your travel date.
