History

Jaśkowo comprises an estate complex dating from the 18th century. The manor house was built in 1721 and rebuilt in 1776. The church also has a multifaceted history: it was built in 1770 and later rebuilt in the English Gothic Revival style. In the 17th and 18th centuries, services were held there in Polish.

Location and Nature

Jaśkowo is a settlement in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in Iława County and the municipality of Zalewo.

In the immediate vicinity of Jaśkowo, about 2 km north on Lake Młyńskie, are the remains of a Prussian hillfort. About 1.5 km to the west, a damaged Bronze Age burial mound was discovered.

Historically, Jaśkowo is associated with the forest on Lake Jaśkowskie. This forest was known as the temple forest (Święty Gaj) and later as Vierruthen Forest.
