Szałkowo is located on Lake Jeziorak, about 3 km north of Iława. The village is thus associated with an extensive waterscape whose regional character is shaped by lakes, interconnected waterways, and historic sites in the surrounding area.

The Iławskie Lakeland is considered an area with numerous lakes, interconnected waterways, and a navigable sailing route. This route is part of the Pomorski Szlak Żeglarski and is connected to other Polish waterways.

The pier in Szałkowo has been privately owned since 2022, and the shop was closed.

History

Szymbark, with its fortified castle “Zamek warowny XIII-XIVw.”, is located in the vicinity of Szałkowo. In the wider regional surroundings of Szałkowo lies Ostróda, with the Teutonic Knights’ castle “Zamek Krzyżacki XIVw.” Dylewska Góra is also located in this wider regional area.
