Urowo: Hotels and accommodation

The village of Urowo is located in the Dzierzgoń-Morąg Lakeland, in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in Iławski County and in the municipality of Zalewo. Its location between Lake Gil Wielki to the south, Lake Kocioł to the east and Lake Jeziorak to the west defines the geographical setting of the village.

Nature

The lake associated with Urowo has predominantly shallow, gently sloping shores. Alder and birch forests line its shores, while the southern shores are wet or marshy and characterised by reeds. The lake is accessible; there are wild bathing spots, water access points and opportunities for fishing.

History

The area around Urowo contains archaeological traces from the Late Bronze Age, including several burial mounds. Two Prussian hill forts from the Early Middle Ages were also found near the village.

Urowo was founded in 1346 by Konrad von Bruningsheim, the commander of Dzierzgoń, as a settlement with a granted foundation charter on the site of an older Prussian settlement.
