Ostróda between a river mouth and the city’s history
Ostróda lies where the Drwęca flows into Lake Drwęckie. Castle Museum and exhibitions
The museum is housed in a former 14th-century Teutonic castle. Its permanent exhibition, “From the History of Ostróda and Its Surroundings,” gives the visit a clear local focus. The castle has three exhibition rooms; the permanent exhibitions are on the ground floor. Gothic architecture with ribbed vaults provides the museum’s historic setting. This lets you explore the city’s history while also taking in the building in which it is presented.
Another exhibition, “Napoleon in Ostróda,” uses an interactive map to trace the emperor’s route and the locations of important battles and headquarters. For visitors interested in Napoleonic history, it offers a different focus from the permanent exhibition on the city and its surroundings. Viewpoint and modern amphitheatre
The viewpoint in the tower of the Evangelical Church offers views across the whole city. It is reached by climbing 105 steps—a specific detail you can take into account when deciding whether to make the ascent. You can also see the clock mechanism and three large bells in the tower. The largest bell has a diameter of 148 cm. The visit thus combines city views with a glimpse of the tower’s features. The views, clock mechanism and bells each offer a different reason to visit.

The 22 km cycling route runs from Ostróda through Lichtajny, Brzydowo, Ornowo and Kajkowo, then back to Ostróda.
