Ostróda is located in the Iława Lakeland on the Drwęca River and Lake Drwęckie; the surrounding area is considered a region of lakes and forests.

There are said to be 15 lakes in the immediate vicinity of Ostróda, five of them within the city. The Ostróda–Elbląg Canal is considered a technically unique navigable waterway with historic inclined planes. Dylewska Góra is also located in the wider regional area around Ostróda.

History and culture

“Ostróda – Zamek Krzyżacki XIVw.” is located in the vicinity of Ostróda. Ostróda developed next to a Teutonic Order castle and received city rights in 1329. The city’s cultural heritage includes the Teutonic Order castle, the layout of the old town, and the Ostróda–Elbląg Canal.
