Peninsula, Palace Park and Cycling Route
The palace and park complex is a striking example of the French Baroque layout known as “entre cour et jardin”—between courtyard and garden. The palace park covers 18 hectares. In the 1770s, it was considered the largest park in East Prussia; historical accounts also associate Sztynort and the park with oak trees. This gives the landscape an added cultural and historical dimension.
A cycling route also passes through Sztynort. Along the route is the bridge between Lakes Dargin and Kirsajty, described as a special kind of “observation tower.” The cycling route can be a focus in its own right, while the palace park and lake scenery appeal to other interests. The bridge is a particularly notable viewpoint along the route.
Museums and Architectural History
MEMUAK comprises two e-museums: eMuzeum Środowiska and eMuzeum Żeglarstwa. The eMuzeum Środowiska focuses on the diversity of local flora and fauna, as well as the landscape, with interactive activities complementing the exhibits. The eMuzeum Żeglarstwa explores the history of sailing and yacht navigation in a multimedia exhibition. The grounds of Pałac Lehndorffów w Sztynorcie include a neoclassical tea house and a neo-Gothic chapel. Together with the French Baroque layout of the palace complex, these offer another way to explore the area’s history: architecture and historic park design, as well as the landscape itself, can shape your choice of destination.
Harbour, Water Sports and Events
Port Nowy Sztynort has more than 450 berths. Motorboat courses may be available locally, and diving trips can depart from Sztynort. Maritime activities range from the history of sailing in the museum to being out on the water. Beach volleyball competitions are also part of the area’s events calendar: they have been held in Sztynort since 2020. If you want to plan your trip around a competition, check the specific event dates rather than assuming a future edition will take place.
Culture in the wider Węgorzewski destination
As an additional cultural attraction in the wider Węgorzewski destination, the grounds of Muzeum Kultury Ludowej feature a small open-air museum showcasing traditional Masurian architecture. It includes wooden houses dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. Cmentarz nad jez. Święcajty is a cemetery for soldiers who fell in the First World War; it contains the graves of 344 German and 234 Russian soldiers. These regional sites complement Sztynort’s attractions but are not part of the local palace and park complex.
