Trelleborg

Like Malmö and Helsingborg, the city of Trelleborg is described as a gateway to Sweden. At first glance, Trelleborg seems almost like an inconspicuous place on the Baltic Sea. Were it not for the direct ferry connections to places such as Travemünde, Rostock, Sassnitz and the Polish city of Świnoujście, one might perhaps see it as being overshadowed by the Danish capital Copenhagen and the Swedish cities of Malmö and Helsingborg.

It could also be summed up another way. Although Trelleborg is in southern Sweden, it is surrounded by a number of smaller towns, making it a wonderful destination for a city break in Sweden as well as a base for day trips—for example, to the Danish capital, Copenhagen, or to the nature-rich countryside. Incidentally, not far from Trelleborg, Sweden’s southernmost city, lies Smygehuk headland, the country’s southernmost point. The panorama over the open Baltic Sea from just outside Trelleborg is one of the most popular photo opportunities on Sweden’s south coast.

Renting a holiday apartment in Trelleborg, Sweden, offers the chance to explore not only beautiful natural landscapes but also the small Baltic Sea town’s very old, almost mystical history. The settlement history of Sweden’s southernmost point is believed to stretch back a very long way. Close to Trelleborg, you will also find Skegriedösen, a long barrow dating back more than 5,000 years. The long dolmen is surrounded by 18 stones. Their supposed magical attraction cannot be confirmed, but the site is nevertheless a popular place to visit. Finds from excavations there are housed at Trelleborg Museum and hint at an even deeper history. Other attractions in Trelleborg include the partly faithful reconstruction of the Trelleborg, a recently discovered archaeological site in the city centre, and the Ebbehall Art Museum.
