Travemünde

Travemünde, which has belonged to Lübeck since 1802, is considered a Baltic Sea resort and is therefore one of Germany’s oldest seaside resorts. Its historic old town, architecturally impressive beach promenade, wide sandy beaches, and famous landmarks such as the four-masted sailing ship Passat and the Skandinavienkai terminal in Europe’s largest ferry port established Travemünde’s reputation.
Its maritime traditions continue in many ways. The Old Lighthouse is the oldest beacon on Germany’s coast and is now used as a maritime museum. The new beacon atop the 119-metre-high Maritim Hotel is now the tallest on the entire Baltic coast. Travemünde has Germany’s largest ferry port. Regular ferry services depart from here for Sweden (Trelleborg, Malmö), Finland (Helsinki) and Latvia (Liepaja/Libau).
