Rerik
The small Baltic resort of Rerik lies at the entrance to the Wustrow Peninsula, which separates the Salzhaff lagoon behind it from the Baltic Sea. Rerik forms a link between Poel Island to the west and Kühlungsborn to the east. Today, the Baltic resort of Rerik is a gem, with a 170-metre-long pier and a well-maintained beach promenade. It was only at the beginning of the new millennium that the promenade, together with Haffplatz, was developed into an attraction for holidaymakers and visitors. The Wustrow Peninsula has been used for military purposes since 1933 and was occupied by Soviet forces after 1945. For security reasons, it remains closed to the public today.
Rerik’s town centre offers numerous shops, cafés and restaurants, with a wide selection of fish dishes, particularly those made with freshly caught Baltic fish and sold at the local smokehouses. With its calm, shallow waters, the Salzhaff, which opens to the west, is one of the most popular areas for surfing and sailing on the Baltic coast. The fishing harbour, which also has berths for visiting boats, is the departure point for fishing trips and trips to Poel Island.
