Skanderborg
On the way to the Baltic Sea coast near Aarhus , holidaymakers travelling along the Baltic Sea pass through the small town of Skanderborg on the Danish peninsula of Jutland. The town lies in Denmark’s lake district, a well-known area among canoeists and folding-kayak enthusiasts. In some places, the waterways around Skanderborg are even wide enough for sailing and motorboats.
Among Skanderborg’s attractions, the castle by the lake is especially famous. It is said that the fairytale royal castle was once built on the walls of a venerable medieval fortress. Today, however, only the castle church and a tower remain, both dating from 1767. There are only a few holiday apartments around the lake and in the heart of Skanderborg. With its quiet lanes and beautiful squares, and its many legends and stories about Denmark’s kings, Skanderborg never fails to impress.
