Krynica Morska (Kahlberg)

The westernmost stretch of Poland’s Baltic coast begins on the Vistula Spit (Mierzeja Wiślana), a narrow strip of land in the south of the Bay of Gdańsk (Zatoka Gdańska). The small town of Krynica Morska lies in the middle of the Vistula Spit. For a long time, the town was located on the shortest route between Gdańsk and Königsberg. A post office and an inn were established, and the Vistula Spit was stabilized by planting vegetation on the dunes and draining the area. Since the late 1960s, Krynica Morska—the smallest town in Poland—has been one of the most popular seaside resorts on the Polish Baltic coast, welcoming up to 100,000 visitors a year today.

The Vistula Spit alone, with its varied natural landscape of forests on high dunes and the two very different shores of the Vistula Lagoon and the Baltic Sea, makes an attractive setting for a relaxing holiday. At Krynica Morska, the distance between the two shores of the spit is about two kilometres. The sandy beach on the north coast is one of the most beautiful on the Baltic. The exceptionally spacious harbor, with its vast area for large-scale events, is a striking feature. The harbor itself is not only a popular destination for recreational sailors; during the summer season, regular boat services also run from here to Tolkmicko (Tolkemit) and ElblÄ…g (Elbing), both located on the opposite mainland shore.
