Nynäshamn

The town of Nynäshamn is the centre of the southernmost municipality in Stockholm County Stockholm and lies directly on the outer coast of the Baltic Sea. The southern tip of the Stockholm Archipelago begins here, with the outlying island of Landsort, home to Sweden’s oldest lighthouse. Nynäshamn is located at the southern tip of the Södertörn Peninsula. Passenger and vehicle ferries depart from the town’s ferry port for Visby on the island of Gotland and for Gdańsk in Poland.
The town’s coastal location and the variety of Sweden’s natural landscapes make it an attractive destination for a holiday on the Swedish Baltic coast. Holiday homes, campsites, hotels and youth hostels offer accommodation to suit every need, with the high standard of comfort Sweden is known for. Both the mainland and the coast offer countless opportunities for a varied holiday. Boat trips, canoeing along the coast, swimming at sandy and rocky beaches, surfing and kitesurfing, water skiing, wakeboarding, trying out a jet ski, and sailing safaris to see seals and white-tailed eagles are just some of the activities on offer. Stenstrand, on the outlying island of Torö, is considered one of Sweden’s finest spots for surfing and kitesurfing. Anglers can fish with a hand line for free in the archipelago waters. The outer and inner archipelago can be explored by sea kayak, including on guided tours, and multi-day sailing trips aboard a 40-foot sailboat are also available. Wreck diving off the coast of Nynäshamn is especially interesting when accompanied by an experienced guide. The local golf club has a 27-hole course as well as a short course. Those who love a challenge can try rock climbing on one of the many coastal cliffs. The bicycle rental service at the local tourist information office makes it possible to cycle along the long stretches of coastline on the mainland and islands, with wonderful views of the Baltic Sea. A riding stable provides horses for excursions in the surrounding area.
Nynäshamn is also a holiday destination in winter, with numerous marked trails for cross-country skiing and routes for skating on lakes or Baltic Sea bays that freeze over early in the season. The swimming pool in Ösmo is open all year round.
Nynäshamn offers a unique holiday combination of close contact with nature and a location not far from the major city of Stockholm on Sweden’s Baltic coast.
