The Usedom Music Festival

This festival is the result of an initiative by Usedom’s cultural enthusiasts and music experts. Since 1994, the Usedom Music Festival has presented the stars and treasures of Baltic music each year over three weeks from September to October.
Each year, a different country takes center stage, showcasing the full musical diversity of Northern Europe. At the island’s distinctive concert venues, Usedom the Usedom Music Festival brings to life the unique atmosphere of this cosmopolitan German-Polish island, open to the world and connected to the countries of the Baltic region. The rich musical heritage of the countries and regions linked by the sea is showcased by this long-established festival series in atmospheric churches, picturesque castles, the magnificent buildings of the imperial seaside resorts, and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s largest industrial monument in Peenemünde.
Founding director Thomas Hummel, who remains in office today, describes the festival as one of the world’s rare thematic festivals focused on individual countries. At the time, Hummel secured Kurt Masur, music director of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and chief conductor of the New York Philharmonic, as the festival’s first patron.
