Usedom: Imperial Resorts, the Achterland and Day Trips

Ahlbeck

Ahlbeck lies between Usedom’s oldest seaside resort, Świnoujście, and the seaside resort of Heringsdorf, and is the easternmost of the three “Imperial Spas.” Its best-known landmark, and a symbol of the entire island of Usedom, is its pier—the only one on Usedom to have retained its historic Gründerzeit-era buildings.

Bansin

East of the nearly 60-meter-high coast of Langenberg lies the seaside resort of Bansin, the westernmost and smallest of the three “Imperial Spas” on Usedom Island. Bergstraße in Bansin is home to one of the most beautiful ensembles of resort architecture on the entire Baltic coast.

Karlshagen

In just a few years, the Baltic resort of Karlshagen on Usedom Island has gone from being an insider tip to one of the most popular family seaside resorts. Its shallow-water area also makes it well suited to young children. Karlshagen stretches for more than three kilometers from the Baltic coast to the Peenestrom, where the largest harbor in the German part of Usedom is located.

Koserow

The seaside resort of Koserow lies at the foot of Streckelsberg, which at 59 metres is one of the highest elevations on Usedom Island. A wooden boardwalk at dune level provides beach access for people with disabilities. Koserow is also home to a hotel specialising in welcoming guests with physical disabilities.

Town of Usedom

The town of Usedom, which gave the island its name, lies in the southwest between Usedomer See, a small inlet of the Szczecin Lagoon, and the Peenestrom. Today, Usedom is a quiet little town in the so-called Achterland.

Trassenheide

The spa park with its concert shell, cafés and holiday accommodation right by the dunes have become distinctive features of the Baltic resort of Trassenheide, and above all, so has the new beach promenade with its exceptionally spacious play area for children.

Ückeritz

The tourist hub of the seaside resort of Ückeritz on Usedom Island is its 4.5-kilometre-long campsite, which, despite being reduced in size in 1990, remains the largest on Usedom. Ückeritz, one of the four “Amber Spas”, is the most heavily wooded seaside resort on Usedom. Stagnieß Harbour is a departure point for boat trips and a mooring for recreational boats.

Zempin

The seaside resort of Zempin, the smallest on Usedom Island, lies between the Baltic Sea beach and the Achterwasser lagoon. Zempin offers a peaceful holiday, with excursions on the Achterwasser or cycling trips in the surrounding area. It is one of the four Amber Resorts in the central part of Usedom Island.

Zinnowitz

With more than 150 years of bathing tradition, the Baltic Sea resort of Zinnowitz on the island of Usedom is one of Germany’s oldest and today most prominent Baltic Sea resorts. With its two theatre venues, theatre academy, Usedom Art House and numerous events, including the Vineta Festival, Zinnowitz is considered Usedom’s cultural capital.
