Snogebæk between the harbour and the coast
Accommodation in Snogebæk
In Snogebæk, harbour views meet waterside paths and the open coastal landscape. The town is a good starting point for choosing between a walk around the harbour, a longer stretch of coastline and a nature excursion nearby. Its location on the Kyststien also gives your travel plans a sense of direction: Snogebæk is a natural stopping point between the sandy south and the coastal towns to the north.
The harbour and waterside paths
Snogebæk Harbour is well protected by the reefs of Salthammerrev and Brorev. A short walk leads from the main road to the harbour, across the footbridge and back along the water. If you would like to extend the loop, you can continue from the main road towards Balka Beach. There, the route crosses soft sand and follows the quiet bay. The two sections offer different impressions: one takes in the harbour and bridge, the other the sand and sheltered bay.
You can also take short walks along the beach from Snogebæk, or follow the coast towards Balka and Dueodde. The Kyststien connects the town to the wider coastal route as a natural stopping point. The approach is also a practical consideration for the harbour: it provides safe and easy access to Snogebæk Harbour.
Nature nearby
Nearby Hundsemyre, a protected marsh, lies northwest of Snogebæk. Its reed beds, water and bushes provide good conditions for birdlife. Visitors can walk through Hundsemyre outside the closure period from 15 March to 15 July. As access is regulated seasonally, check the current access conditions before your visit. This lets you include a nature excursion in your plans while keeping the special protection period in mind.
Broens Odde lies south of Snogebæk, outside the town. Its reefs, rocks and sand make it a good spot for coastal fishing. The surrounding area therefore offers a range of coastal experiences: paths along the beach, a protected marsh and a stretch of coast suited to fishing.
Discover Bornholm’s culture
Snogebæk also has a distinctive cultural history: production of the now world-famous chocolate began here. This offers a different way to experience the town from its harbour and coastal paths, adding to the picture of Snogebæk’s local character.
If you want to explore more of Bornholm beyond Snogebæk, the island has plenty more to discover. The NaturBornholm science centre features dinosaurs, live crocodiles, an aquarium and a bison exhibition; the exhibitions may change over time. Bornholms Middelaldercenter is a 15-hectare open-air museum that brings 14th-century Bornholm to life in an engaging and interactive way. Bornholm’s first smokehouse opened in Gudhjem in 1866, and herring has been smoked there ever since. These examples are part of Bornholm as a whole, not local features of Snogebæk.
Bornholm as a destination and base
When choosing where to stay, it helps to connect your interests for the island trip with the specific experiences Snogebæk has to offer. Here, the harbour and short coastal paths sit alongside nature at nearby Hundsemyre; other cultural and landscape attractions belong to the wider destination of Bornholm. Ekkodalen in Almindingen is Bornholm’s largest rift valley. These varied destinations show how a stay in Snogebæk and excursions around Bornholm can each have their own focus.
Bornholm can be reached by ferry, plane, bus or train. The ferry crossing from Ystad in Sweden to Bornholm takes one hour and 20 minutes. Check the latest timetables and connections for your trip.
