Ätran is considered a destination in inland Falkenberg where nature experiences and activities come together. Many of the trails and water activities described are connected to Eseredssjön. There is also a multi-day paddling route, seasonal events and other active pursuits. When choosing Ätran for a trip, you can start by asking whether hiking, swimming, fishing, paddling or attending an event will be the main focus.
Hiking and trails by Eseredssjön
The circular trail around Eseredssjön is 3.3 kilometres long. The green and yellow hiking loops start at Ätrans skidcenter; part of each loop follows the Hallandsleden. This means several trail options are connected to the lake, although no length is specified for the two loops.
The Hallandsleden also passes notable points in this area: its section from Ätran to Långesjön runs past Eseredssjön and alongside the campsite.
Another route is Ätranbaneleden. It is 24 kilometres long and passes through Ullared, Ätran and Fegen. Near the facilities and Eseredssjön, there are also training routes of varying lengths for running, hiking and mountain biking. Mountain biking is possible around the lake, near the facilities of Ätrans Turist & Fritid.
Swimming, fishing and a paddling tour
Sjövikens Badanläggning is located in the centre of Ätran, right next to Eseredssjön. It has three heated outdoor pools: a 25-metre swimming pool with a 3-metre diving board, a 25-metre children’s pool and a paddling pool. Sjöbastun by the lake has its own bathing jetty, adding another waterside option to the swimming pools.
Fishing is possible in Eseredssjön from a rowing boat or from several jetties. Fish found there or stocked in the lake include rainbow trout, pike, bream, roach and perch.
For a longer water route, the paddling route from Ätran to Falkenberg is offered as a three-day tour covering 43 kilometres. The route also includes five portages.
Art and seasonal events
Morfars glänta is an art experience on the Hallandsleden by Eseredssjön, where art and nature meet. In Ätran, Morfars glänta is located between the bathing spot and the lakeside shelter. The place therefore combines a specific location with a cultural connection to the landscape.
Sjövikens Festplats is used during the season for music events and evenings featuring Gammaldans. The programme is seasonal; if you want to plan your visit around it, check the event dates before travelling. Ätrans Turist & Fritid also holds a swimming school every summer for children aged six and over. Check the dates before setting off.
More active pursuits
Ätrans Skidcenter offers cross-country ski trails of 3, 5, 7 and 10 kilometres. At Ätrans IP, there are twelve 50-metre shooting lanes. As facility details may change, it is advisable to check them before visiting.
